Albany Rifle Volunteer Helmet Badge
c. 1878Standard pattern crowned (missing) and laurel die stamped white metal plate with ALBANY RIFLE VOLUNTEERS around center. Lugs on back are bent but intact.
The Albany Rifle Volunteers was established in July 1878 as the first group organised from local residents to defend Albany, some 15 years prior to the establishment of the Princess Royal Fortress. This badge was found by Mr Peter COOPER whilst erecting a fence in Albany in 1971.
