Overview

A rectangular certificate that features illustration of two soldiers standing at attention before the Queen, who holds a flag and sword. Illustration is framed by elaborate red border comprising two columns decorated with foliage and scrolls. The columns are joined by a beam, surmounted by volutes, cherubs and the British coat of arms, with the motto 'Dieu et mon droit'. Discharge information is recorded on a scroll on the lower right-hand corner of the certificate. The certificate is framed in a embossed decorative frame.

Historical information

This discharge certificate was presented to Lance Corporal Thomas Lawrence Mooney on 26 July 1916. Born in Albany in October 1885, he enlisted on 3 November 1914 in Guildford with the 10th Light Horse Regiment, Machine Gun Section. Embarking Fremantle on board HMAT A47 Mashobra on 17 February 1915, he landed at Gallipoli before being evacuated due to paratyphoid and influenza. He returned to Australian on 17 September 1915 and was discharged as permanently unfit.
