First World War Union Jack Silk Flag dated July 19th, 1919

Overview

Silk rectangular flag on metal rod, displayed vertically in frame. On main side, large union jack is painted in red and blue over cream silk, taking up majority of fabric. Along left hand side of union jack is an additional layer of cream silk, displaying text that runs vertically from bottom to top (text is on its side).
Along left hand side of flag are 5 loops of silk, securing flag to metal rod. Gold plaited cord loosely extends along length of rod, fed through holes in either end of rod and knotted. Tassels are at each end of cord, strengthened by white thread wound around. Along right hand side of flag is gold metallic fringing, 3.5cm long.

Historical information

This flag was produced by the Ugly Men’s Association as part of a fundraiser for the benefits of “the boys” and their dependents.
