A rectangular brass plaque with black enamel text inscription.

Historical information

The plaque was featured on the American Signal Lookout tower which was built in 1988 as part of the Australian Bicentenary. On the 25th April 1988 the tower was dedicated and the first US Submariners "Still on Patrol" memorial service being held at the new site; previously the memorial was located at Lawley Park. The tower was a modern recreation of the original tower built by the United States Navy which was used during the Second World War.

Contextual Information

The plaque is the only remnant of the 1988-tower which was removed in 2013 for the development of the National Anzac Centre. The tower overlooked the waters of Princess Royal Harbour and King George Sound, and at the time, presented visitors an interpretation of the site's wartime conditions.
