Gunner Peter Loney deserted from the Permanent Force at the Princess Royal Fortress in 1916 to enlist in the Australian Imperial Forces for service in the First World War. Enlisting under the alias Joseph Martyn 7043 3rd Battalion, he later declared his true name as being Peter Loney on 17th May 1917 In the Field. Peter was Killed in Action on 4th October 1917 in Belgium. This is the only known image of Peter.
