A rectangular certificate that features illustration of two soldiers standing at attention before the Queen, who holds a flag and sword. Illustration is framed by elaborate red border comprising two columns decorated with foliage and scrolls. The columns are joined by a beam, surmounted by volutes, cherubs and the British coat of arms, with the motto 'Dieu et mon droit'. Discharge information is recorded on a scroll on the lower right-hand corner of the certificate. The certificate is framed in a painted white-edged frame under glass.
This discharge certificate was presented to Sapper Herbert Frank Charles Turner on 29 March 1919. Born in Melbourne, Victoria, he enlisted on 18 January 1915 in Leonora with the 11th Battalion, 5th Reinforcements. Embarking Fremantle on board HMAT A20 Hororata on 26 April 1915, and seeing action at Gallipoli. He was transferred to the 51st Battalion where he was wounded on his first occasion with a Gun Shot Wound to the chest. He was later transferred to the 4th Divisional Signally Company where on 17 August 1918 he received a Gun Shot Wound to the head which penetrated his cranium with brain matter protruding; he made a full recovery.
