Discharge Certificate to Private John Joseph James Lanton
1919A rectangular certificate that features illustration of two soldiers standing at attention before the Queen, who holds a flag and sword. Illustration is framed by elaborate red border comprising two columns decorated with foliage and scrolls. The columns are joined by a beam, surmounted by volutes, cherubs and the British coat of arms, with the motto 'Dieu et mon droit'. Discharge information is recorded on a scroll on the lower right-hand corner of the certificate. The certificate is framed in a embossed decorative frame.
This discharge certificate was presented to Private John Joseph James Lanton on 11 August 1919. Born in Perth, WA, he enlisted on 30 June 1917 in Fremantle with the 2nd Pioneers 12th Reinforcements. Transferred into the 32nd Battalion, he embarked Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A60 Aeneas on 30 October 1917. Gassed in September 1918, where after returning to Western Australia, he was discharged Medically Unfit on 11 August 1918.
He died on 31 October 1979.
