FLAG - AUSTRALIAN BICENTENERY

Overview

Rectangular olive green cotton material reinforced along one short side by a strip of canvas sewn in place retaining the display rope and toggles. In the centre of the flag is a gold bicentennial logo.

There is a cream label on the lower otherside of the flag.

Historical information

Created for the bicentenary of European settlement in Australia on 26th of January 1988. The flag consists of a stylised Australia made of ribbon to resemble the stripes of the Union Jack. The gold strips represent the seven states and territories. Originally meant to be on a blue background this was changed to green in 1984 when green and gold were declared to be the national colours of Australia.
