FLAG - WESTERN AUSTRALIAN

c. 2000
Overview

Rectangular blue cotton material reinforced along one short side by a strip of calico sewn in place retaining the display rope and toggles.

The Union Jack is in the top left quadrant and a yellow, circular piece of material to the centre right with a black swan in its middle.

There is a black label with the text as shown below.

Historical information

The flag of Western Australia was confirmed as such in 1875. It had started appearing before 1870 but no creator is known.

The design of the flag is comprised of a blue base, the Union Jack in the upper left quadrant and a black swan in a yellow circle centred on the remaining space on the right.

The design of the flag was altered in 1953. Originally the swan was facing away from the flagpole which did not follow vexillological standards. It was reversed to correct this.
