WWI era trench art coin bracelet
c. 1918World War One era trench art sweetheart bracelet featuring a series of eight 1918-dated Australian three-pence sterling silver coins linked with small silver jump rings.
The obverse of each coin features the crowned and draped bust of King George V facing left, surrounded by the Latin legend 'GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT: OMN: REX F. D. IND: IMP:'.
The reverse of each coin displays the 1908 Australian Coat of Arms (a kangaroo and an emu supporting a shield with a star above). It includes the word 'THREEPENCE', a scroll reading 'ADVANCE AUSTRALIA', and the date '1918' below.
The clasp for the bracelet is missing.
This sweetheart bracelet is one of a large number of items in the collection made from coins. These include jewellery such as brooches and bracelets, small photo frames, and other bric a brac.
Many of these items were made by servicemen and could be called trench art. This is sometimes confirmed by engraving on the reverse side of the coins.
