John Mulder married Jean Williams 1944. Lived in Davies Road and worked tirelessly for the quality of life in that area. Fought the development of high-rise flats in Davies Road, and was instrumental in keeping the density down. Led the fight to prevent an aged persons' development in the same road. The campaign was successful and the park that was created on the spot has been named John Mulder Park.
