HURRICANE LAMP
1940Metal and glass lamp with adjustable wick.
An oblong shaped metal frame, painted or enamelled silver, with a wire handle attached at the top LH and RH corners.
The frame is attached to a circular metal plinth that is moulded into the lamps base.
A strut is attached to the middle of the underside of the frame at the top and this provides a top circular cone shaped cover for the glass.
A slightly oblong shaped glass vase sits over the metal plinth and is secured to the cover at thetop with wire hooks.
A series of wire hooks further secure the core to the plinth base and wrap around the glass creating a wire cross on both sides.
Inside the glass there is a raised dome of metal with an opening (presumably where the wick sits).
The base around the dome is perforated metal with lots of small holes. Outside the glass, attached to the plinth, is a large plastic headed, ribbed edge screw which is screwed into an opening in the base.
To the right of this, sticking out horizontally from the base, is a length of wire twisted into a handle with a circular head on it. This rotates and is presumably for adjusting the wick.
