Historical information

The fridge magnet was ordered by restaurant owner and chef Gary Smith as promotional tool. Gary owned The Manse Restaurant located at 31 Church Ave Armadale from 1991 to 2020.
The Manse Restaurant was opened around May 1988 by Alex and Kerry Koers in the former Congregational Church Manse building. In the early 1990s Gary Smith, who had been working as an apprentice at the restaurant, purchased the restaurant and ran it until its closure in 2020 due to COVID 19 pandemic and ill health.

Statement of significance

The fridge magnet was produced by The Manse Restaurant for promotional use in the 2010's by restaurant owner Gary Smith. The magnet is part of a collection of objects that tell the story of The Manse Restaurant which was a popular dining establishment with local residents from 1988 to 2020. Owner and chef Gary Smith owned the restaurant from 1991 to 2020. The Manse Restaurant was a popular place strongly supported by local dinners for much of its life from 1988 to 2020.
The fridge magnet is representative of the dining scene in Armadale from the late 1980's to today.
