MANUAL CREDIT CARD IMPRINT MACHINE

Overview

Black and grey rectangle moulded base. The edge is black, middle grey. In the middle of the base is a brass plate with raised text [THE MANSE RESTAURANT / ARMADALE WA]. Above the plaque is a space with brackets for the placement of a credit card. On top of the base is a rectangle black plastic box that slides on runners along the length of the base and over the metal plate and the credit card space. A fawn with black text is on top of the box [Commonwealth Bank / Credit Card Authorisation] under this are logos for the credit card companies Bankcard, Mastercard and Visa.
On the under side is a silver maker's label with black text

Historical information

This manual credit card machine was used at The Manse Restaurant in the 1990s and early 2000s. It was used when diners wished to use a credit card to pay for their meal. The machine took an imprint of the card onto a carbon paper form and the restaurant filled in the cost and the diner signed the form. A copy of the payment was ripped out and given to the dinner as a record. With the advent of electronic payments in the 2000's these machines became obsolete by the 2010s, though if the electronic system was down the machine could still be used.
The Manse Restaurant was opened around May 1988 by Alex and Kerry Koers in the former Congregational Church Manse building. In the early 1990s Gary Smith, who had been working as an apprentice at the restaurant, purchased the restaurant and ran it until its closure in 2020 due to COVID 19 pandemic and ill health.
For much of its existence The Manse was a very popular restaurant in the district. During the 1990s the restaurant received several Golden Plate nominations and in 19%% won the award for
