LACE, MACHINE, SKIRT
This ornate bottom half of a lady’s garment shows a unique example of using different laces to create an elegant gown, worn by donor’s grandmother in England late 19th C.
The skirt consists of three layers – the top layer of machine broderie anglaise, a decorative net insertion separates this from the lowest layer - machine lace emulating floral Mechlin bobbin lace. Raw edge at the top indicates the skirt has been cut from the bodice. A decorative net insertion has silk covered buttons. An opening has a metal hook with a stitched eye.
Some staining and a few small holes.
