LACE, BOBBIN, COLLAR
Late 1700s intricate Flemish handmade bobbin lace in the finest linen thread.
Lace was very fashionable for about 300 years, with children’s outfits similar to adults.
Two bands, different widths, of fine lace joined to create a child’s collar.
Wide band – Mechlin ‘eis’ ground – plaited on 2 sides and twisted on 4 sides.
Narrow band – ‘drochel’ ground’ - elongated hexagonal mesh similar to mechlin - plaited on 2 sides and twisted on 4 sides.
