TROPHY, PERPETUAL - KELMSCOTT WOMEN'S HOCKEY CLUB
1973 - 1992Trophy in the form of a cup, with a brown plastic base and a white metal cup. The cup has a convex circular base with a conical cup rising from the centre of the base. The conical cup has a flattened area at the top to allow the lid to sit level. On either side, attached to the conical cup, are white metal handles which curve up and inwards towards the cup. A second strip of metal connects the top of the cup to the curved handle.
The brown plastic base has 20 small shields, of varying sizes, attached and these are engraved with the trophy winners names and years, from 1973 to 1992
Engraved on the front of the cup is [KELMSCOTT WOMEN'S HOCKEY CLUB / 1ST GRADE / Fairest & Best / "Verna Creyk"/ PERPETUAL TROPHY].
Inside the plastic base is a yellow sticker labelled [ANFIELD TROPHIES / & ENGRAVING / 108 Lissiman St / GOSNELLS / Ph: 398 1932]
This Perpetual Trophy for the Fairest & Best player of the Kelmscott Women's Hockey Club was named in honour of Verna Creyk. Verna played hockey for Australia and was a State diver and gymnast. Verna's mother, Marjory, was the first female Life Member of the Kelmscott Football Club, where her son was a player. All six Creyk daughters played hockey for the Kelmscott Hockey Club. Creyk Park, in Waltham Rd, Kelmscott is named in honour of this sporting family.
The trophy was first awarded in 1973, won by G. Chester, and was awarded each consecutive year until 1992.
Verna represented Western australia at a number of National championships and was selected in the All Australian team at the 1968, 1970, 1971, 1973 and 1974 championships.
