Western Australian State baseball team tie c.1964
The c.1964 tie is made of black rayon fabric with gold-coloured diagonal stripes placed 4.8cm apart. Both ends of the tie are tapered to a point. A white manufacturer's tag is located on the back of the tie, with the name of the maker printed in green and red. The tie is lined with cream satin fabric and the initials 'JK' are hand-written in black pen on the lining.
The 1964 Claxton Shield was the 25th annual Claxton Shield, an Australian interstate baseball championship. It was held at the Albert Park in Melbourne, Victoria. John Kelly was a member of the Western Australian State team competing in the championship and this tie formed part of the team's uniform.
The manufacturer of the tie, Curtis Cravat, are renowned makers of neckwear. They have an outlet in New York.

This State team tie was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by John Kelly, whose distinguished baseball career playing for Western Australia included competing in six Claxton Shield teams (1959-1964). John was also selected in the 1960 All-Australian team.
This is a well-provenanced item from the 1964 Western Australian State baseball team uniform. Its design sets it apart from other State team ties in the Baseball WA Museum & Archives' collection. It therefore has historical and social significance.
