Australian Trained Nurses Association Badge presented to Adele Baker
1916Sterling silver and blue enamel cross pattee badge. The centre of the badge shows the Southern Cross on a blue enamelled circle. Surrounding the central detail is 'AUSTRALASIAN TRAINED NURSES ASSOC'N' in raised lettering. Sections of silver laurel leaves are found between each of the four arms of the cross. Fittings for a brooch pin are attached to the reverse of the badge, however the actual pin itself has broken off.
The reverse of the badge is engraved 'Adele Baker Nov. 8, 1916'. It also has the maker's name and the words 'STG SILVER'.
Adele Baker was born in Penrith, Sydney, NSW in 1891. She qualified as a trained nuse in November 1916. She enlisted, aged 25, as a Staff Nurse in the Australian Army Nursing Service, on 20 April 1917.
She embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board RMS Mooltan on 9 June 1917. She served in Egypt.
She returned to Australia on 8 July 1919 aboard the HMAT A67 Orsova. She was discharged as midically unfit on 29 Jan 1920.
