Australasian Trained Nurses' Association Badge presented to Evelyn Wilson
1907Sterling silver and blue enamel cross pattée badge. The centre of the badge shows the Southern Cross on a blue enamelled circle. Surrounding the central detail is 'AUSTRALASIAN TRAINED NURSES' ASSOC'N' in raised lettering. Sections of silver laurel leaves are found between each of the four arms of the cross. A brooch pin is attached to the reverse of the badge.
The reverse of the badge is engraved 'Evelyn Wilson May 3, 1907'. It also has the maker's name and the words 'STG SILVER'.
Evelyn Clara Louisa Wilson was born in Bathurst, NSW in 1878. She qualified as a trained nurse in May 1907. She enlisted, aged 37, as a Staff Nurse in the Australian Army Nursing Service, on 14 July 1915.
She embarked from from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A71 Nestor on 11 October 1915 as part of the 1 Australian General Hospital 1-6 Special Reinforcements. She served in France and Salonika and was awarded the Royal Red Cross decoration First Class on 6 October 1919 for her service in The Balkans.
She returned to Australia on 24 October 1919 aboard the HMAT A14 Euripides. She was discharged on 23 December 1919.
