Cream glazed stoneware container with two lion head handles.
On the upper section of one side there is an embossed design of a coat of arms within an oval border.
Below this is a second oval embossed design with text "G Cheavins improved patent gold medal self cleaning rapid water filter Boston England"
Inside is a separate stoneware filter.
Missing stoneware lid and brass plug and tap.

When operational the water filter comprised two compartments, each with a filter made of stoneware. Charcoal was placed inside. Water was poured in the top and purified by the charcoal. Clean water was then drawn off via the tap at the bottom.
