CLOCK, PENDULUM, SKELETON
1855Skeleton clock with wooden stand, key and pendulum. Missing glass dome.
The clock is mounted on a wooden board with 4 small feet and the board is covered in violet velvet. The mechanism is mainly brass with some stel springs.
Atop of the clock is a steel domed bell with a brass striker attached to a steel rod. There are no makers marks evident.
Believed to have belonged to George Hasell. He and his newly wed wife Ellen were given this as a wedding present from George's family in the UK in 1855.
Ellen Hasell died in 1920. George had predeceased her in 1876. Their oldest son Henry died about 1936 and it's about then that the clock was believed to have come into the hands of the Toodyay community, and then in time donated to the Newcastle Gaol Museum.
It originally had a glass dome that was accidentally broken by someone cleaning it in around 2000.
