Historical information

Douglas Edward Feutrill & Dorothy Jill Feutrill - as of 1999, they were the owners of the Heritage Listed "Westbrook Homestead" in Vasse, Western Australia.

"Westbrook Homestead" was constructed between 1863 and 1866 for Elijah Dawson and his family. (Prior to leaving England, he married Ann Wakeham. Arrived in the Swan River Colony in 1830.) Elijah purchased Sussex Location 12 (600 acres) from Thomas Turner on 20 April 1846 for £120 and named the property ‘Westbrook Homestead’.

The Dawsons' sold Westbrook Homestead to William Dias Taylor in December 1906. William Dias Taylor sold the property to his nephew, Mr D E Feutrill in 1964. Heritage Council state in a 2007 report that Mr D Feutrill’s son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Robyn Feutrill, currently occupy Westbrook Homestead.

DOUGLAS EDWARD FEUTRILL:

This drum set was owned by Mr D E Feutrill who lived at Westbrook Homestead. The family link is as follows:

Gladys Hope, daughter of William & Emily Taylor, was John ('Jack') Graham Taylor's sister. Gladys married Harry Edward FEUTRILL, and had a son Douglas Edward FEUTRILL. It is believed that Jack Taylor's family passed the drum set on to Douglas Feutrill.

Drum set was donated to the Museum by Mrs Dorothy Jill Feutrill whose husband, Douglas Edward Feutrill, is nephew to Uncle John 'Jack' Graham Taylor.

Doug Feutrill was a drummer with the local dance band "Melody Aces" in the 1950's.
