Overview

The Australian flag features a blue background with the British Union flag in the top left hand corner; a large white seven-pointed Commonwealth Star beneath it; and five white stars forming the Southern Cross towards right side.

SYMBOLS ON AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL FLAG:

The British Union Jack in top left corner, comprising of three crosses, St George (flag of England), St Andrew (flag of Scotland) and St Patrick (flag of Ireland).

The Commonwealth Star is the emblem of Australian Federation - six points represent the states and the seventh all the federal territories which together constitute the nation, the Commonwealth of Australia.

The constellation of the Southern Cross indicates our geographical location in the southern hemisphere - four large stars each with seven points and the smaller star at five points.
