A large brass hand held bell would be used to call students in, signalling the start of a lesson, or announce recess - the sound was loud and distinctive, cutting through the noise of the schoolyard and drawing attention instantly.

Schooling in the Vasse area began at Elijah Dawson's "Westbrook" property. In 2019, Vasse School celebrated its 150th anniversary.
