Overview

The large colour photo of Ben Cousins shows a man in his late 70's/early 80's, wearing a striped shirt with a white collar. He is leaning forward on a table and shows the numbers tattooed on his forearm, and in front of him is a collection of black and white photos. Mr. Cousins was forced into a labour camp in Poland in 1937, and over the next eight years he survived Auschwitz, the forced 600km march to Dachau, and several months there before being liberated by the American Forces. He and his friends moved to Germany, then went their separate ways. Mr. Cousins first moved to Adelaide, then on to Perth, where he started Ben's Deli on the west side of Rokeby Road, between Bark and & Bagot Roads. In 1995 he was reunited with his friends from Dachau for a reunion, and died at the age of 81 on 9th May, 1996. Attached is a copy of a W.A. Newspapers article, printed 11/5/1996.
