PHOTOGRAPH: SUBIACO MUNICIPAL BAND, 1931 C. GRADE CHAMPIONS,INTERSTATE BAND CONTEST

1931
Overview

The black and white copy photo shows the twenty four men of the Subiaco Municipal Band in three rows, the first row seated and the other two rows standing. With the exception of three men, all have instruments either in hand or resting in front of them on the floor. The group is on a stage, with dark curtains behind. The photograph was taken on the occasion of the Band becoming C. Grade Champions in the Interstate band Contest, 1931. Two of the men seated in the middle section of the front row have suits and ties on, the rest of the men are dressed in a dark uniform with frogging down the front of the jackets, and wearing peaked caps. The man seated behind the drums in the front row has more ornate decorations on his jacket, and is carrying a baton. A trophy is placed on a small stand beside the drums at the front of the men. The members of the band, left to right, are: Front row; H. Basham; C. Jewel; F. Long; F. Idle, M.S. Dye (Secretary), Harold Partington (Conductor); R.L. Newman (President); E. Alden; S. Jane; C. Osborn. Middle row: J. Lacey; A. Morris; R. Oliver; A. Scott (Drmu-major); D. Chaloner; J. Bennett; W. Jewell. Back row: J. Simeni; L. Jewell; M.Morris; W. Baker; W. Cox; J. Palmer; N. Cooper. J. Lacey was a cornet player and grandfather to Margaret LeFevre. He lived in West Leederville. Museum holds copy photograph only
