David William Henneker was born on 13 December 1928 in Tambellup. He left Christian Brothers College Kalgoorlie at the age of fourteen to work in a men's store before becoming an apprentice painter with the local council. He later worked as a driver before underground work in the mines. He then moved to Perth and worked in timber yards before joining the WA Police Force in May 1950. He married Dorothy McColl on 4 June, 1951. Children: Frances (b.1952), William (b.1954), Keith (b. 1959), Gail (b.1960) and David (b.1962). He was stationed in the Fremantle area for most of the time, except for a period on point duty (directing traffic) in Perth, until approached to take over the Claremont Police Boys' Club in 1957. With his wife and two eldest children he moved into allocated government housing at 66 Victoria Avenue in November 1957 with a rent of 25 shillings a week. His duties as officer I/C of what became the Police and Citizens Youth Club in the 1960s to include girls, included finding and organising instructors and managing fund raising. All five of his children eventually became members and his wife assisted with fund raising. For a short period Henneker served as a coordinator for the Federation of PCYCs before moving to take over the Geraldton club in 1973. From there he moved to the Morley club before retiring in 1982. Dave Henneker was a keen sportsman. He played some football and cricket in the Goldfields, was an A grade tennis and table tennis player, played B grade golf, and later won a state title in lawn bowls. The Claremont PCYC was noted for its gymnastics and boxing for which he secured expert coaches. Was Manager of the Australian Olympic Boxing Team that went to the 1964 Olympics in Japan.
