Hammond is wearing a dark waistcoat, jacket and tie with a full moustache and light coloured hair swept off his face. Photograph b) is very similar to Photograph a). Historical information

James Hammond married Matilda Elson (d.1942) in NSW 1888. They came to Western Australia from NSW in 1895 and lived on Davies Rd (Graylands Estate) and Goldsmith Rd, Claremont.

Children: James Elson Spencer (1890 - 1967), Leslie John Hillier (1892 - 1972), Walter George Roy (1894 - 1961), Alan Portsmith Hammond (1896 - ), Gladys Winnifred Maud (b.1899), Stanley Leonard (b. 1902), Ina Ellen (b.1904), Freda Olive (b.1908) and Clifford Ernest (1911-1991).

Hammond was a carpenter/builder and was contracted by Mr W Drabble to build the Claremont Picture Theatre. He was also a Councillor of Claremont from 1907-1911.
