HAMMOND, JAMES CR.
Two black and white bust photographs of J Hammond, councillor at the Town of Claremont in 1908-9 and 1909-11. Photograph a) is in partial profile. Hammond is wearing a dark waistcoat, jacket and tie with a full moustache and light coloured hair swept off his face. Photograph b) is very similar to Photograph a). Hammond is wearing clothes of a comparable style and has a similar haircut. Printed beneath [Hammond 1908-9]
James Hammond married Matilda Elson (d.1942) in NSW 1888. They came to Western Australia from NSW in 1895 and lived on Davies Rd (Graylands Estate) and Goldsmith Rd, Claremont.
Children: James Elson Spencer (1890 - 1967), Leslie John Hillier (1892 - 1972), Walter George Roy (1894 - 1961), Alan Portsmith Hammond (1896 - ), Gladys Winnifred Maud (b.1899), Stanley Leonard (b. 1902), Ina Ellen (b.1904), Freda Olive (b.1908) and Clifford Ernest (1911-1991).
Hammond was a carpenter/builder and was contracted by Mr W Drabble to build the Claremont Picture Theatre. He was also a Councillor of Claremont from 1907-1911.
