NEEDLELACE, AEMELIA ARS, TEA CLOTH
This Aemelia Ars bobbin lace linen tea cloth, has unusual tiny figures of a male and a female in the design. There are two bands of Aemelia Ars lace, one in the centre 40 mm wide and one forming the edging 45 mm wide. Between the two are some little squares 20 mm & 30 mm square, with needlelace fillings. These are connected by a drawn thread line. The Aemelia Ars Society was founded in Bologna, Italy in 1898 to revive the decorative arts which had so degenerated during the Industrial Revolution. Though the Society was disbanded in 1903 due to internal dissent, the lace making continued until 1920s.
