Historical information

James Pearce (1812-1879) was an unmarried miner convicted of firing a barley stack in 1849 and sentenced for 15 years. He arrived in WA in 1851 on the Mermaid (convict no. 302). In 1854 he married Mary Ann Sheehan and moved to Greenough where he farmed and worked as a stonemason. The couple were to have 13 children, but most died in infancy.
Thomas Tomlinson (1842-1891) was a bookbinder with numerous convictions. He was sent to WA in 1863 on the Lord Dalhousie (convict no. 7656). He worked for numerous men at Greenough and Irwin.
