The writer, Octavius Ryland (1800-86) was an expiree and school teacher at Greenough.
Thomas Batcock (1824-1910) was convicted of robbery with violence and sent to Western Australia in 1861 (no.5685). He worked for numerous masters at Greenough.

This is the only note in the archives from either Ryland or Batcock. It is interesting as it lists how Batcock spent the 18 shillings (though there is 2 shillings unaccounted for).
