Family Photo Pendants - G W Thirlwell & W Thirlwell
Two double-sided photo pendants:
Item 1: Round metal pendant with curly border. Glass front with a portrait photograph of a gentleman on one side, and the other side has a portrait photograph of a young boy.
Item 2: Round metal pendant with border. Glass front with a portrait photograph of a young lad on one side, and the other side is a portrait photograph of the same lad but younger.
Note: A pendant is a decorative ornament that hangs from a chain, often serving as the focal point of a necklace.
Pendant 1:
GEORGE WILLIAM THIRLWELL (1873-1940)
George was born in Newcastle on Tyne, United Kingdom, one of eight children (and the eldest son) of William Snowdon Thirlwell (1847-1916) and Mary Watt Gofton (1848-1930). George's father worked as as a bookbinder, and his parents moved from England and lived in Mt Lawley, Western Australia, until their deaths.
George married local girl, Elizabeth Jessie Taylor on 29 August 1899 in Newcastle on Tyne, United Kingdom. Elizabeth was the daughter of cabinetmaker, James Taylor (1852-1895) and Agnes Middlemas Scott (1849-1914).
George and Elizabeth's only child, William, was born in 1900. George worked as an insurance broker in England before the family migrated to Western Australia in 1912. George continued to work as a clerk for the next 25 years. George and Elizabeth are buried together at Karrakatta Cemetery.
Pendant 2:
WILLIAM THIRLWELL (1900-1962)
Son of George William Thirlwell
William married Nellie Eileen Smith at St Albans Church in Highgate, Western Australia in 1931. Originally from Victoria, Nellie's parents moved to Western Australia soon after her birth in 1903.
