Historical information

The stamp holder was given as a gift to Kate McGurk by Lilian Harrison
(nee Mulcahy). Lilian and her husband Ronald owned Harrison's Hardware store on Jull Street. Lilian had owned the stamp holder for some time before she gave it to Kate. The Harrison's and McGurks both arrived in Armadale in the early 1900s and established local businesses on Jull Street (Harrison's hardware store, McGurks bakery). They were also members of the St Francis Xavier's Catholic Church which was built in 1913. The two families were also close friends. Kate when young would often visit Lilian and talk.
