This bag was used by Pam Herbert when she went shopping at the Armadale Woolworths store in the early 1980s. The store was located on Orchard Avenue.
The store opened in the late 1970s and was closed and demolished in c.2006 to make way for the Armadale Central Shopping Centre. When Armadale Central opened in 2008 it included a new Woolworths supermarket.
The bag represents the commercial history of the City of Armadale. Large corporations and small business all played an important role in servicing the needs and wants of the local community as well as providing local employment. Social and commercial history both play an equally important role in the growth and development of a community. As the community grows so does its needs and desire for commercial business and commercial businesses can not grow without a active community there to support them.
