These finely hand embroidered whitework handkerchiefs were stitched in early 20th century.
a. Pulled fabric embroidery with scallop design. Blanket stitch edging.
b. Parallel lines of ladder stitch in each corner. Tiny satin stitch flowers around the perimeter.
Fine drawn thread border on edge.
c. Comprehensive geometric design in ladder stitch: pulled fabric squares and pyramids.
d. Appenzell whitework hand embroidery covering the whole handkerchief. Floral design in satin st, seed stitch in
leaves, needlelace centres in flowers, fine blanket stitch scalloped edge.
