Historical information

This banjo was used by either Annie Green or her husband William Binns Green, both were very musical and enjoyed performing for family and friends. William arrived in 1905 and set up a new home in the Wungong area. A year later Annie arrived and the family story goes that when the ship arrived at Fremantle Harbour William yelled from the wharf 'Did you bring the piano?'. Annie would go on to become the organist for St Matthew's in Armadale for many years. It is thought the banjo was passed down to Annie's daughter Ada who was born in Armadale and would go onto to marry William 'Bill' Cruise in 1930.
