The fire caused major damage in 1986, with children being sent to other schools in the area. The cutting is from the Comment News 8 April 1986 p5 and was collected by Tony Crickmore who had children attending the school at the time.
Across 1986 and 1987 several local schools experienced arson attacks which caused considerable damage to all of the schools.

Newspaper cutting from a newspaper about the Challis Primary School fire that occurred on the weekend of the 5-6 April 1986. The cutting was collected by Tony Crickmore, whose children were attending the school at the time. Tony and his wife volunteered to help with the cleanup. The newspaper cuttings and certificates represent the relationship between local schools and their immediate local community. The items also represent a spate of arsons attacks in 1986 and 1987 that targeted local schools, all of them causing considerable disruption to the schools and their students.
