Statement of significance

The chairs were purchased from Hern Brothers and Stead in Victoria Park for the new Armadale Memorial Hall in 1936, The chairs were used for a variety of social functions at the hall. They were laid out in rows for lectures, concerts and films and laid out around the edge of the hall for dances. The chairs were replaced in the 1970s.
The chairs represent the original style and fabric of the hall as well as the important role the hall played in community events. This is a rare example of the chairs as most were sent to the rubbish tip when they were replaced.
