Overview

A hard black folder with a wide spine and a four post device to retain the pattern books attached to the inner edge of the back cover.
There is a white paper label with red lettering fixed to the inner front cover:- [From / LINCOLN MILLS (AUSTRALIA) LIMITED / SALES BRANCH / First Floor, 766-768 HAY STREET, PERTH. / Phone BA 5052 / To/ Lincoln PRODUCTS]
There are six Lincoln pattern books contained in the folder with [Specimen copy only not for sale] stamped on the covers. The books are numbered as follows, 150 6d, 731 1/3d, 733 1/3d, 742 1/3d, 751 1/3d, 761 1/9d

Historical information

Hastie's was the last drapery store to occupy the shop that had previously house two other drapery stores. In 1908 Mrs E Caldwell started her drapery business in Armadale. By the mid 1910s it is known that she worked out of a store on Jull street , near the corner of Third Road. In 1923 Mrs Henwood took over the business and ran it till 1931 when Hastie's took over. The shops mainly sold men's, women's and children's clothing. It closed in 1981.
The business was relocated to a shop in Fourth Road Armadale when the Jull Street shop was demolished to for the development of the Armadale City Shopping Centre.

Statement of significance

This knitting design catalogue was used at Hastie's Drapery Store on Jull Street in the 1960s to 1970s for staff and customers to look through when deciding what they wished to purchase. The folder represents material and styles available to the local community in the c1950s. The folder was collected by Pam in the 1981 when the store closed. Pam used to work in the store in the 1950s
