Overview

A beautiful hand embroidered baby’s outfit of dress and petticoat in finest white cotton from mid 20th century.

Made in Madeira, baby garments such these were imported into Western Australia from Portugal and were very popular.

(a) Dress has short puffed sleeves set in band, pintucking across the front with floral motifs and a scalloped shadow work hem. Placket opening centre back, 2 plastic buttons and hand stitched buttonholes.

(b) Sleeveless petticoat has a bound neckline and is buttoned at the shoulder. Scalloped hem has embroidered floral motifs.
