Alkimos Ship Wreck
c. 1964Colour Photograph
On 20 March 1963 the Greek freighter, SS Alkimos struck a reef near Beagle Island. This mishap was the start of a tragic chain of events that was to see the vessel impounded in Fremantle harbour and run aground on two more occasions, with the last being near Wreck Point. Attempts to refloat her failed and eventually the freighter was sold for scrap.
