Soldiers - 10th Light Horse Regiment
c. 1940Black and White Photo
During World War Two, 600 men of the 10th Light Horse were stationed in Wanneroo bushland, firstly on the east side of Wanneroo Road and south of Ashby Road. Later they moved camp to a site west of Wanneroo Road, north of Flynn Drive and where today's commemorative trail exists. On 14 April 1944, the regiment was officially disbanded and the men were shipped out to other infantry units. The Wanneroo-based 10th Light Horse regiment was the last Australian Mounted Cavalry unit of the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.).
