Lime Kilns
Black and White Photo
Western Australia is home to 26 designated lime kiln sites, of which 17 are located in the City of Wanneroo. Full information about the sites can be found in the City of Wanneroo Local Heritage Survey (2016). Please note that the numbers attributed to the Lime Kilns are taken from a study prepared by Robert Brittain in 1984. The numbering system has continued into common usage and has proven valuable in determining individual lime kilns. The proliferation of lime kilns in the area is in direct relation to the migrant community that helped establish Wanneroo from the 1930s through to 1960s. Wanneroo is also home to the last remaining lime burning kiln in Australia – the Susac Lime Company.
