Brass Buttons from WW2 Military Uniform

Overview

On the front is a raised map of Australia with a crown above it and around the edge AUSTRALIAN MILITARY FORCES.
On the back is a shank of passthrough which is a brass bobby pin.

Historical information

These buttons were used on the service men's uniforms during service in WW2. They would have been removed for polishing when the uniform was sent for cleaning. These larger buttons would have been worn on the front of the jacket.

Statement of significance

Historic: Uniform of servicemen during WW2
Social: They were part of the uniform and removable for cleaning. There would have been a small hole in the jacket which the button shank fitted with a small bobby pin inserted through the eye of the shank.
