Australian Legacy badge - raising funds for the widows, children and families of soldiers killed at war.
The Legacy War Orphans Appeal was a fundraising initiative launched by the Legacy Club in 1942 to support the widows and children of deceased or injured servicemen. This appeal, which has evolved into Legacy Week, aimed to provide guidance, medical and dental care, and financial assistance to orphans of servicemen. The appeal began with a simple badge drive and has since become one of Australia's oldest and largest street appeals, garnering strong community support and involvement from high-profile figures.

"War Orphans Appeal. 6d. Legacy. Lest We Forget"
These badges were one of the ways to raise funds for the war orphans appeal.
Note: Legacy was started in 1923 originally to assist returned servicemen to find work. In 1925, the focus of the clubs changed to assisting widows and children of deceased or injured servicemen. Fundraising for this work began in 1942. The aim of the club was to extend to the orphans of servicemen the guidance and advice that their fathers would have given, provide support for medical and dental care, or financial assistance for their mothers.
