On the shield below are the white star and crescent moon on a red background, emblems of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The letters 'P.D.D.G.M.' appear against a white band at the top of the shield. These stand for 'Past District Deputy Grand Master'.
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows was founded in 1898 and was still in operation in 1994. These medals were known as 'jewels' by the Society and were worn on a fabric collar by members. This medal was presented to Mr. J.E.A. Malmberg who rose to the office of trustee of Prince Albert Lodge (Subiaco) in 1907.
