1961 West Australian Baseball League Country Carnival Program
1961An A5-size program with brick-red front and back covers and eight internal pages printed on yellowing paper with black print. The front cover has a pen-and-ink sketch of a baseball player in playing uniform, swinging multiple bats. Printed in black text are the name of the carnival and dates that it was held, as well as the name of the baseball league conducting the carnival. The back cover displays three advertisements for local businesses and the name of the program's printer.
The 1961 Sixth Country Baseball Carnival was held from the 3rd to the 5th of June by the West Australian Baseball League. Games were played on Ozone Reserve No.1 and No.2 grounds and Langley Park No.1 and No.2 playing fields on the Perth foreshore. Competing teams were from the Goldfields, Bunbury, Armadale and Wagin-Narrogin.
On Sunday 4th June a 12-inning State Trial game was played on Langley No.1 between the 'Probables' and 'Possibles'. This game was to give the State selectors an opportunity to help with their selection of the State team to play in the Claxton Sheild series in Adelaide. It also provided the public (including the visiting country teams) the opportunity to see top Western Australian baseball players in action.
The games on Monday 5th June included a match between the State Colts team and a Combined Country team.

A member of the Kalgoorlie team, Colin Smith, donated this program to the Baseball WA Museum and Archives.
A rare addition to the Museum's collection, this program has historic and social significance with the naming and interaction of country and metropolitan baseball players in Western Australia. It is in good condition and complete and comes with excellent provenance.
