Milk Jug Cover
Milk jug cover, crocheted cotton / glass beads
Round crocheted milk jug cover in white cotton. Blue glass beads have been threaded onto the edges as weights.
There is a teacup design on top of cover
Embroidered and Crocheted pieces could be found in most Australian homes in the late 1800s to mid 1900s. Beaded covers such as this one were used to protect milk, sugar and other foods from flies and insects, particularly in the days before household refrigerators. The beads served not only as a decorative item, but for weighting the cover so that it would not fall off the jug.
