MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP PERPETUAL (GROSS) TROPHY

1969
Overview

This trophy is titled:

Club Champion Perpetual Trophy

The winner of this trophy recognises the Men's Championship (Gross) winner. There is also an honour board recognising the winner.

The trophy consists of a silver coloured, one piece metal cup mounted on a square base. The wooden base bears the name of the trophy and the winners' names attached to the sides using silver plaques.

Based on the trophy style, this is almost certainly not the original Men's Champion Trophy. The winners' names from 1969 to 2006 appear together on one plaque covering one complete side of the base. Subsequent winners appear on individual plaques in larger font on another side.

Other items in the archive also suggest that in earlier years of this event the winner was presented with a unique trophy which was theirs to take home and there was no perpetual trophy. One of those can be seen in the item titled Men’s Club Championship Trophy – John Cusack, the winner of 1971 Men’s Championship. The Perpetual Trophy was likely to have been introduced to address cost issues but to also have a single trophy bearing the history of all winners.

Trophy photography completed by club member Tom Arnautovic.
